The Fayetteville Academy Eagles were the 39-28 winner over the Rocky Mount Academy Eagles when they last played one another back in December of 2014, but their luck changed this time around. Fayetteville Academy had to suffer through a rough 70-37 loss at the hands of Rocky Mount Academy. Fayetteville Academy was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-14.
Despite the loss, Fayetteville Academy still got an impressive performance from Polly Miller, who scored 19 points. Miller continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Mary Reese Barkman was another key contributor, scoring 10 points.
Rocky Mount Academy's win on Wednesday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Isabella Daza, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 assists. The contest was Daza's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Taylor Carmichael, who scored 16 points along with 5 rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Fayetteville Academy and nudges their season record down to 3-5. As for Rocky Mount Academy, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 6-0.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fayetteville Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Halifax Academy at 5:15 p.m. on January 5, 2024. As for Rocky Mount Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Lawrence Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lawrence Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 205th, while Rocky Mount Academy is ranked 84th).
