The Kalama Chinooks had to start their season on the road on Thursday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They lost to Woodland on the road by a decisive 58-39 margin. Kalama lost against Woodland in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 74-22 score last time.
Kalama's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Abel Koski, who scored 11 points along with 6 rebounds, and Jevan Lucente who scored 9 points along with 3 blocks. Another player making a difference was Drew Schlangen, who scored 4 points along with 3 steals.
Kalama's loss dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Woodland, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Kalama will take on Columbia Adventist Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Woodland, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Columbia River at 7:30 p.m.
