Softball Recap: Alpine Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Alpine waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They were the clear victors by a 17-0 margin over the Presidio Blue Devils. The result was nothing new for the Bucks, who have now won 11 contests by nine runs or more so far this season.

Kody Hawkins made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aylna Gutierrez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and two runs. Another player making a difference was Kacy Hawkins, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Alpine hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are 7-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Alpine now has a winning record of 13-12. As for Presidio, they are on a 16-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-13.

Coincidentally, Alpine and Presidio will both be playing Tornillo the next time they take the field. The Blue Devils will head out to face the Coyotes at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Bucks will host them at 5:00 p.m. on the 10th.
