The Mattamuskeet Lakers lost against the Pungo Christian Academy Raiders two weeks ago, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Mattamuskeet was beaten by the Raiders 62-34. While losing is never fun, Mattamuskeet can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 588th, while the Raiders are ranked 247th).
When it comes to explaining why Mattamuskeet lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kensley Cox. Despite the final result, she scored 21 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. That was a full 61.8% of Mattamuskeet's points, marking the 13th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. ANGIE MENDOZA was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Mattamuskeet's loss was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-12. As for Pungo Christian Academy, their win bumped their record up to 14-10.
Mattamuskeet won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Raiders at 6:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Hopefully Hobgood Charter focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 last Tuesday. Pungo Christian Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
