The Strawberry Crest Chargers and the Sumner Stingrays squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but sadly the Strawberry Crest Chargers had to settle for second. They were beaten by the Stingrays 56-23. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Strawberry Crest in their matchups with Sumner: they've now lost four in a row.
Strawberry Crest got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of
Jenna Tia and
Elektra Ribot, who each put up six points.
Sumner's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Briana Gill-guyette, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine steals. Gill-guyette hasn't dropped below three steals for six straight games. Another player making a difference was Mikayla Berry, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Strawberry Crest has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season. As for Sumner, their win bumped their record up to 20-5.
Strawberry Crest does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Sumner, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 56-17 victory vs. Lakewood Ranch on the 9th.
