The McCluer Comets will head out on the road to square off against the Hazelwood East Spartans at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. McCluer is hoping to put an end to a ten-game streak of away losses.
McCluer suffered their biggest defeat since December 11, 2023 on Saturday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 65-43 walloping at the hands of Belleville West. While losing is never fun, McCluer can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 344th in Missouri, while Belleville West is ranked 141st in Illinois).
Meanwhile, Hazelwood East pushed their score all the way to 56 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 65-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of Parkway North. Hazelwood East has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
McCluer's loss dropped their record down to 2-12. As for Hazelwood East, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-2.
McCluer was able to grind out a solid win over Hazelwood East in their previous matchup back in December of 2021, winning 64-56. Will McCluer repeat their success, or does Hazelwood East have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
