The Classical Academy Caimans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their sixth straight loss. They were dealt a 89-61 loss at the hands of San Diego Jewish Academy. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
When it comes to explaining why Classical Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Issac Davis. Despite the final result, he scored 24 points. That was a full 39.3% of Classical Academy's points, marking the 13th time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Joseph Lanzone, who scored 14 points.
Leading San Diego Jewish Academy to victory were Jack Silberstein and Ethan Abeles. Silberstein dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds, while Abeles scored 32 points along with six rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Abeles has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jacob Rissman, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Classical Academy's defeat was their eighth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-18. As for San Diego Jewish Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-10 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Classical Academy won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th. Tri-City Christian presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Caimans in California (the Eagles are ranked 606th, while the Caimans are ranked 1351st). As for San Diego Jewish Academy, they will head out on the road to square off against the Firebirds at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
