Basketball Recap: Eustis Triumphs

Eustis hadn't done well against Leesburg recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Eustis Panthers escaped with a win against the Leesburg Yellow Jackets by the margin of a single free throw, 41-40. This was a revenge game for the Panthers: when they faced off against the Yellow Jackets back in December of 2024, they had to take a 66-58 defeat.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Eustis to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cornelius Hines, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten boards. Hines has been hot, having also posted two or more blocks the last seven times he's played. Another player making a difference was Lomar Sparrow, who posted eight points and ten rebounds.

Several Yellow Jackets players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Xavier Campbell, who earned 11 points. Jalen Brown was another key player, putting up ten points.

Eustis pushed their record up to 15-7 with the win, which was their third straight at home. As for Leesburg, they moved to 11-7 with that loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

Eustis has already played their next game, a 60-57 defeat against Seminole on the 29th. As for Leesburg, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 60-56 victory against South Lake on the 28th.
