The Marshall Rams fought the good fight in their overtime game against the Brandeis Broncos on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Broncos 73-68. While losing is never fun, Marshall can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 864th, while Brandeis is ranked 391st).
Marshall's loss came despite strong showings from Aric Goodman and Jason Vidaurri. Goodman scored 19 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds, while Vidaurri scored 17 points along with six assists and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Vidaurri has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Aj Torres, who scored seven points.
Brandeis' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Trevor Short, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 14 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Lincoln Philyaw, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Marshall has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost ten of their last 11 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-18 record this season. As for Brandeis, their victory bumped their record up to 11-13.
Marshall will be playing in front of their home fans against Clark at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Brandeis, they will head out on the road to square off against Lee at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Lee's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three games.
