Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2020 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence, in addition to local and state accolades.
Travis Hunter of
Collins Hill (Suwanee) is the 2020 MaxPreps Georgia High School Football Player of the Year. The 6-foot, 165-pound junior was an impact player on both sides of the ball for the Eagles, who went 12-3 en route to the state's AAAAAAA championship game.
As a wide receiver, Hunter hauled in 137 passes for 1,746 yards and 24 touchdowns. Nov. 13 against Mill Creek, he caught 15 passes for 209 yards and three touchdowns and had another big game in a semifinal win over Lowndes, grabbing 11 balls for 183 yards and three TDs.
Defensively, Hunter finished with 51 tackles and eight interceptions.
Already committed to Florida State, Hunter is considered a top 10 prospect nationally in the Class of 2022 by 247Sports. Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Oklahoma and Texas have all extended offers.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which will be released Jan. 29.
