Basketball Recap: Cary Drops Season-High Score on Apex

Cary scored the most points they've had this season on Tuesday, but it wasn't enough. They fell just short of the Apex Cougars by a score of 91-89. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (58), the Imps still had to take the loss.

Cary's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jonathan Peery, who went 10 for 16 en route to 25 points. Peery's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lee Podger, who went 8 of 9 on his way to 21 points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Cary was working as a unit and finished the game with 24 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

It was another big night for Zaelyn White, who shot 6-for-10 from long range and almost dropped a double-double on 34 points and nine assists for Apex. The dominant performance gave White a new career-high in points. Justin Boyle was another key player, going 6 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 18 points.

Cary has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season. As for Apex, the victory snapped their losing streak at six games and leaves them with a 3-14 record.

Cary will head out to square off against Green Level at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Green Level knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matches -- so hopefully Cary likes a good challenge. Apex has already played their next game, a 55-36 defeat against Middle Creek on the 29th.
