St. Joseph Catholic had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped down to 8-19 to make it four. They lost 14-4 to the Magnolia Heights Chiefs. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Chiefs this season, with their most recent loss being a 4-1 defeat on Thursday.
Chad Davidson was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that he has snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Parker McKenzie, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
As for Magnolia Heights, the win was the 12th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 27-4-1. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 19 games by six runs or more this season.
On Magnolia Heights' side, Brannan Overstreet made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Overstreet has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI.
In other batting news, Magnolia Heights got a massive performance out of Cayden Prestage, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and two RBI. Tre Miller was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. St. Joseph Catholic is set to take on their familiar foe Bayou Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Magnolia Heights will square off against rival Jackson Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Chiefs 3.1, the Raiders 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
