Baseball Recap: Maclay Extends Winning Streak to Five

Maclay waltzed into their game on Saturday with four straight wins... but they left with five. Everything went their way against the Munroe Bobcats as they made off with a 24-0 win. Give the Marauders' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.

Beau Beshears and Henry Richardson made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Beshears pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Richardson tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Beshears has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. At bat, Beshears went 3-for-5 with two runs and one RBI, while Richardson went 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Maclay is 7-1 when Richardson posts two or more runs, but 2-4 otherwise.

In other batting news, Tucker Poppell was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with five runs, four RBI, and one double. Those five runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ben Burdette, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two RBI and one run.

Maclay kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive matchups.

Maclay's record now sits at 9-5. As for Munroe, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-11.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Maclay will host Jefferson County at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.47 runs per game on average), something the Marauders will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Munroe, they will be playing at home against Gadsden County at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Jaguars have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 23.14 runs per game on average), something the Bobcats will no doubt try to take advantage of.
