The East Central Hornets's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their 13th straight loss. They suffered a rough 66-46 loss at the hands of Stone. While losing is never fun, East Central can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 290th, while the Tomcats are ranked 109th).
East Central lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Brody Howard, who scored 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cartavious Myers, who scored 13 points.
Leading Stone to victory were Ray Dennis and Jabori Moye. Dennis scored 20 points along with five rebounds and two steals, while Moye dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. It was the first time this season that Moye pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was JaKobey Johnson, who scored five points along with six rebounds and six blocks.
East Central dropped their record down to 2-15 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Stone, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-5.
East Central won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the War Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on January 24th. One thing working in Wayne County's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four games. As for Stone, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Vancleave is coming into the game on a six-game losing streak.
