Even though the Mt. Pleasant Oilers scored an imposing 55 points on Tuesday, the Powers Catholic Chargers still came out on top. Powers Catholic strolled past Mt. Pleasant with points to spare, taking the game 74-55. Given Powers Catholic's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while Mt. Pleasant is ranked 99th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Powers Catholic's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Javontae Ross, who scored 12 points along with nine assists and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Dedivanaj, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds.
Powers Catholic pushed their record up to 9-1 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.8 points per game. As for Mt. Pleasant, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Powers Catholic will take on Bridgeport at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mt. Pleasant, they will head out on the road to face off against Swan Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
