Softball Game Preview: Sudan Hornets vs. New Deal Lions

For the second straight game, Sudan will face off against New Deal. The Hornets will square off against the Lions at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Sudan has three straight wins, New Deal has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Sudan's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They put the hurt on New Deal with a sharp 15-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won nine games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Danielle Mitchell made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, seven RBI, and three runs. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Sudan got a massive performance out of Haylee Toscano, who scored four runs while going 3-for-3. Toscano continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniella Ramirez, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

Sudan kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Sudan's record now sits at 14-11-1. As for New Deal, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-14.

Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Sudan hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .406. However, it's not like New Deal struggles in that department as they've averaged .356. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
