Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Danbury). They never let the Bridgeport Central Hilltoppers get on the board and left with a 16-0 win on Friday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Hatters as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.
Giani Chieffalo and Kaden Chenard made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Chieffalo struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Chenard tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the most strikeouts Chieffalo has posted since back in May of 2024. At the plate, Chieffalo went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Chenard went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Jacob Encarnacion was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Shawn Torpey, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Danbury always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Danbury's win bumped their record up to 4-14. As for Bridgeport Central, they dropped their record down to 1-17 with the defeat, which was their 19th straight on the road dating back to last season.
