Three junior transfers have vaulted Clay-Chalkville (Pinson) not only into contention for an Alabama state basketball championship but also for a possible national ranking.
The center piece is 6-9 DeMarcus Cousins, who averaged 20 points and 13 rebounds last year at Birmingham Erwin before being suspended following an altercation. Christian Watford, 6-7, also is nationally-ranked in the junior class. He averaged 16.8 points and 10 rebounds for Hewitt-Trussville.
The third transfer is 6-2 guard Josh Pritchett, who averaged 6.5 points and 4.0 assists as a part-time starter at Birmingham Ramsay.
Clay-Chalkville has a new head coach, Robi Coker, who last year was an assistant coordinator of basketball operations at the University of Mississippi.
