The Saguaro Sabercats's three-game losing streak came to an end on Monday. They managed a 57-53 victory over Poston Butte. That's another feather in the cap for Saguaro, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Saguaro's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mikey Shepston led the charge by scoring 13 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Those 13 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Nashoba Redhouse, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds.
Poston Butte lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Dutch Martinez, who scored 11 points along with six assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Jude Ramirez, who scored nine points.
Even though they lost, Poston Butte were working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Saguaro's win bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Poston Butte, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Saguaro won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Arizona College Prep at 7:00 p.m. on December 12th. Arizona College Prep is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 58.8 points per game. Poston Butte will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Greenway at 7:00 p.m. on January 8, 2024.
