Basketball Recap: Servite Extends Winning Streak to Six

Servite came tearing into Friday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.4 points) and they left with even more momentum. They wrapped up 2024 with a 58-43 win over the Taft Toreadors. Given the Friars' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 162nd, while the Toreadors are ranked 453rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Servite to victory, but perhaps none more so than Bryson Taiulu Allen, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 13 points along with seven assists and seven boards. That's the most boards Taiulu Allen has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Schutt, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 boards.

Servite's victory bumped their record up to 10-2. As for Taft, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-8 record this season.

Servite didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 45-44 win against Mater Academy East Las Vegas on the 28th. As for Taft, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 55-47 defeat against Verbum Dei Jesuit on the 28th.
