Independence has gone a perfect 3-0 against Fairview recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Blue Devils will take on the Warriors at 6:00 p.m.
Independence is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Lake Catholic just ended the team's three-match winning streak on Saturday. They lost 3-0 to the Cougars. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Blue Devils have suffered since October 5, 2024.
While Independence was kept off the board, it wasn't for a lack of trying: they cut into Lake Catholic's winning margin in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-13, 25-14, 25-16.
Independence's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Sofia Pichert, who had ten digs and two assists, and Anna Jirmasek, who had nine digs and three aces.
Meanwhile, Fairview entered their tilt with Richmond Heights on Thursday with seven consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with eight. They blew past the Spartans 3-0.
The 3-0 score doesn't show just how dominant Fairview was: they took every set by at least 11 points. The final score came out to 25-14, 25-6, 25-14.
Independence better focus on containing Molly Flynt and Josie Bobko as the pair were huge in Fairview's win. Flynt had nine digs and six aces, while Bobko had ten digs. That's the most aces Flynt has posted over her last eight matchups.
Fairview was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 22 aces. They are a perfect 11-0 when they serve at least ten aces.
Fairview's win bumped their record up to 13-3. As for Independence, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-4.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Monday's match: Independence has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 12.6 aces per game. However, it's not like Fairview struggles in that department as they've been averaging 14.1 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything went Independence's way against Fairview in their previous matchup on September 4th, as Independence made off with a 3-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
