Kings Park came out on top against Islip on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive 11-run second inning. The Kingsmen put the hurt on the Buccaneers with a sharp 15-7 victory. Considering the Kingsmen have won eight matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Jordana Greeney made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Courtney McKenna was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Amanda Van Schuyler also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Kings Park hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Islip struck out seven times.
Kings Park has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Islip, they now have a losing record of 7-8-1.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Kings Park is set to face off against their familiar foe Mount Sinai at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Islip will square off against rival Shoreham-Wading River at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for the Buccaneers and ten for the Wildcats.
