Springfield hasn't had much luck against Clarksville recently, but that could start to change on Monday. Springfield will head out on the road to challenge Clarksville at 6:30 p.m.
Springfield came into this matchup off a tough six-run loss on Thursday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of White House-Heritage by a score of 6-4 on Friday. The Yellow Jackets' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.
Springfield got a good showing from Jackson Goodfred, who struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, Steven Head was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He also put up an RBI, which was his first of the season. Riley Schild was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Clarksville is ranked highly in their home state and on Saturday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Pelham. Clarksville sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 victory over Pelham. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wildcats have posted since May 11, 2024.
Noah Baggett looked comfortable as he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Jack Wyatt was a standout: he went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Ben Moore, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2.
Clarksville has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. Springfield's loss dropped their record down to 4-7.
Springfield came up short against Clarksville when the teams last played back in May of 2024, falling 9-6. Can Springfield avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
