Skyline is 0-4 against Cimarron since April of 2023 but things could change on Friday. The Thunderbirds will host the Bluejays at 4:00 p.m. Skyline is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.
Skyline managed to slip by Medicine Lodge the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Thunderbirds came up short against the Indians on April 7th, falling 7-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Thunderbirds have suffered since April 23, 2024.
Skyline saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kory Anschutz, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Cimarron came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Beavers as they made off with a 12-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Bluejays, who have now won six contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Quinn Campbell was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Campbell was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three doubles, four RBI, and two runs. Those three doubles gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Cimarron let Yesenia Garfio and Isabella Cofer run wild. Garfio went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI, while Cofer went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three RBI gave Cofer a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Vath, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Cimarron hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in four consecutive games.
Cimarron pushed their record up to 7-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Skyline, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-2.
Friday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Skyline has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .480. However, it's not like Cimarron struggles in that department as they've averaged .542. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Skyline suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Cimarron when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Thunderbirds avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
