The Hughson Huskies will head out on the road to challenge the Gregori Jaguars at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hughson is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Hughson is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Hilmar just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Yellowjackets by a score of 3-2.
Hughson saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Allison Moring, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Gregori challenged Modesto on Tuesday. The Jaguars were the clear victors by an 18-9 margin over the Panthers. The result was nothing new for the Jaguars, who have now won seven contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Arabella Port was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (two).
In other batting news, Angelina Hoffman was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with four stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. NeVaeh Scheper was another key player, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with two triples, three runs, and three RBI.
Gregori always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .591. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Modesto only posted an OBP of .417.
Gregori's win was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Hughson, their loss dropped their record down to 12-7-1.
Gregori's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Hughson has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.5 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Gregori, though, as they've been averaging only 3.9 strikeouts. Will Hughson keep running through batters, or will the Jaguars buck the trend?
Hughson came up short against Gregori when the teams last played back in March of 2022, falling 4-1. Can the Huskies avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
