Basketball Game Preview: Mattanawcook Lynx vs. Dexter Tigers

The Mattanawcook Lynx will head out on the road to challenge the Dexter Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Mattanawcook knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past ten contests -- so hopefully Dexter likes a good challenge.

Mattanawcook is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Central: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Mattanawcook blew Central out of the water with a 103-31 final score. The Lynx have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matchups by 24 points or more this season.

Mattanawcook relied on the efforts of Kooper McCarthy, who shot 5-for-8 from long range and dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten assists, and Avery Jordan, who went 12 for 15 on his way to 30 points. McCarthy's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Oliver, who posted seven points and six assists.

Mattanawcook smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in ten consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Dexter earned a 49-42 win over George Stevens Academy on Monday.

Mattanawcook's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-0. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 34.8 points. As for Dexter, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.

Mattanawcook strolled past Dexter in their previous matchup back in December of 2024 by a score of 57-42. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mattanawcook since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
