Springstead and Weeki Wachee are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2020, but likely not for long. Springstead will square off against Weeki Wachee at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Springstead will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
Having struggled with three losses in a row, Springstead turned things around against Wiregrass Ranch on Thursday. They walked away with a 7-2 win over the Bulls.
The team relied heavily on Tanner Henrickson, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February. Nathaniel Sabino was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Weeki Wachee). Everything went their way against Fivay on Thursday as Weeki Wachee made off with a 24-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Hornets.
Jase Kelly made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Kelly was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Weeki Wachee let Saul Melendez and Jayden Allen run wild. Melendez went 3-for-5 with one home run, seven RBI, and three runs, while Allen went 2-for-4 with four runs, two triples, and four RBI. Allen has become a key player for Weeki Wachee: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 7-8 otherwise. Christian Zahora also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Weeki Wachee kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.8 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.
Weeki Wachee pushed their record up to 10-8 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Springstead, their record now sits at 11-6.
Springstead came up short against Weeki Wachee in their previous meeting on Tuesday, falling 8-4. Can Springstead avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
