Basketball Recap: Lake Wales Piles Up the Points Against Mckeel Academy

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Cardinal Mooney, Lake Wales was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They took their game with ease, bagging a 72-28 victory over the McKeel Academy Wildcats. The Highlanders have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 44 points or more this season.

Lake Wales was led to victory by Destiny Witherspoon and Tateyanna Mickel. Witherspoon posted 27 points along with five assists and five rebounds, while Mickel went 10 of 14 en route to 20 points and three steals. Witherspoon also grabbed five steals, which is notable because Lake Wales is 6-2 when she posts at least five steals, but 1-3 otherwise. Vanessa Squire was another key player, putting up nine points along with six assists and three steals.

McKeel Academy's loss came despite strong showings from Ava Anderson and Kiley Earle. Anderson put up 19 points, while Earle had six points in addition to eight boards and three steals. The match was Anderson's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Emilee Hamilton, who posted no points.

Lake Wales has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.5 points per game. As for McKeel Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.

Lake Wales wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 68-45 win against Lake Region on the 17th. As for McKeel Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 35-34 defeat against Four Corners on the 20th.
