Franklin is 8-2 against North Henderson since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Panthers will look to defend their home field against the Knights at 5:00 p.m. Franklin is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Monday as neither Franklin nor Murphy made it on the board until the seventh inning. The Panthers came out on top in a nail-biter against the Bulldogs, sneaking past 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Panthers have posted since March 11th.
Suzanna Cabe was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Layla Maloy, who went 1-for-2 with one home run. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.
Hendersonville hit North Henderson with a six-run sixth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Knights lost 13-6 to the Bearcats. Knights fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Bearcats since on Monday.
Kennedy Drake made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Mollie Spear, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Franklin's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-5. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for North Henderson, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-13.
Wednesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Franklin hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .324. However, it's not like North Henderson struggles in that department as they've averaged .313. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Franklin's way against North Henderson when the teams last played back in March, as Franklin made off with a 15-0 victory. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Knights turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
