After losing to the Vidor Pirates the last time they met, the Port Neches-Groves Indians decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Port Neches-Groves came out on top in a nail-biter against Vidor on Thursday and snuck past 54-51. The win was all the more spectacular given Port Neches-Groves' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 816th, while Vidor is ranked 247th).
Vidor's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Raegan Stephenson, who scored 15 points. The contest was Stephenson's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Madison Powell was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with 7 rebounds and 5 assists.
Port Neches-Groves' win bumped their record up to 6-10. As for Vidor, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-3.
Coincidentally, both teams will both be playing Buna the next time they take the court. Vidor will head out to face Buna at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, while Port Neches-Groves will head out to face them at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
