Westville is 2-8 against Hoopeston since December of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Westville Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Hoopeston Cornjerkers at 6:00 p.m. Westville is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
Last Wednesday, everything came up roses for Westville on the road against Heritage as the squad secured a 68-20 win. Given Westville's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 182nd, while Heritage is ranked 708th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Even though Hoopeston has not done well against Salt Fork recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Hoopeston snuck past Salt Fork with a 40-36 win. The win made it back-to-back wins for Hoopeston.
Hoopeston's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kendrick Sigerill, who scored 9 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Another player making a difference was Owen Root, who scored 11 points along with 5 rebounds.
Westville's win bumped their season record to 4-0 while Heritage's defeat dropped theirs to 2-6.
Westville came out on top in a nail-biter against Hoopeston in their previous matchup back in December of 2022, sneaking past 67-64. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Hoopeston's Anthony Zamora, who dropped a double-double on 34 points and 10 rebounds. Now that he won't be playing on Tuesday, will it be that much easier for Westville to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
