The Aloha Warriors will head out on the road to square off against Nelson at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Aloha will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
While Aloha didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against Hillsboro on Friday as they made off with an 8-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won six matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
Chiyori Brumley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Nalana Warfield, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. That stolen base was her first of the season. Hope Ashbrook was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-1.
Aloha hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Nelson lost 9-1 to Forest Grove on Friday.
Abigail Huspek made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and one double.
Aloha's victory bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Nelson, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.
Nelson's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Aloha has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Nelson, though, as they've been averaging 9.9 hits. Given Aloha's sizable advantage in that area, Nelson will need to find a way to close that gap.
Aloha beat Nelson 6-1 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do Nelson have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
