Basketball Game Preview: Morningside Academy Eagles vs. Brevard HEAT Firehawks

The Morningside Academy Eagles will square off against the Brevard HEAT Firehawks at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Morningside Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.6 points per game this season.

Last Friday, Morningside Academy was able to grind out a solid victory over Calvary Chapel Academy, taking the game 56-43.

AJ Chang was his usual excellent self, going 6 for 9 on his way to 16 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The game was his fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Shaun Gardner, who posted ten points and seven boards.

Meanwhile, Brevard HEAT played a tough match on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against City of Life Christian Academy, falling 91-26. The Firehawks were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 59-18.

Riley Ellis was Brevard HEAT's leading scorer, having posted seven points. Ryan Younger took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with three assists.

Brevard HEAT has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 11 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-15 record this season. As for Morningside Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-10 record this season.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Morningside Academy has been crashing the rebounds this season, having averaged 29.9 boards per game. However, it's not like Brevard HEAT struggles in that department as they've been averaging 24.8 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Everything came up roses for Morningside Academy against Brevard HEAT in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, as the team secured a 68-38 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Morningside Academy since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
