The Southern Wells Raiders will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Elwood Panthers at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Last Tuesday, Southern Wells lost to Southwood at home by a decisive 57-40 margin. Southern Wells has not had much luck with Southwood recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Perrin Gates, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. Those 12 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Chandler Oswalt, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, Elwood was just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 50-49 to Eastbrook. Elwood has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Southern Wells' loss was their fifth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 1-5. As for Elwood, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.
Things could have been worse for Southern Wells, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 58-40 loss to Elwood when the teams last played back in February. Can Southern Wells avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
