The Westfield Area Pioneers have been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They fell 53-45 to Aquinas on Thursday. Westfield Area lost against Aquinas in their previous head to head back in February of 2021, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 69-45 score last time.
Aquinas' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Samantha Davis, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Davis has scored at least 25% of Aquinas' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Madeline Murphy, who scored 13 points.
Westfield Area's loss dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Aquinas, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 9-2.
Westfield Area will be playing at home against Randolph at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday. Randolph knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three games -- so hopefully Westfield Area likes a good challenge. Aquinas won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Xavier at 12:30 p.m. on December 29th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Wisconsin (Xavier is ranked 30th, while Aquinas is ranked 40th).
