Baseball Game Preview: Cathedral Fighting Irish vs. Carmel Greyhounds

The Cathedral Fighting Irish will square off against the Carmel Greyhounds at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Cathedral 3.1, Carmel 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Cathedral is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Indiana's top teams: Harrison, who was ranked 15th at the time (Cathedral was ranked 21st). The Fighting Irish came out on top against the Raiders by a score of 8-3 on Saturday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Fighting Irish.

Connor Christiansen made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched. Christiansen was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one run. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Royce Ward was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Sam Bowles also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, Carmel waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They never let the Bulldogs get on the board and left with an 8-0 win. The Greyhounds might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by six runs or more this season.

Carmel's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-7. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Cathedral, their victory bumped their record up to 16-7.
