The Northeast Rebels came tearing into Monday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took down Unity Christian 44-26. Given Northeast's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 90th in Iowa, while Unity Christian is ranked 619th in Illinois), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Unity Christian's loss came despite strong showings from Emily Merema and Kaylie Hays. Merema scored 16 points along with three blocks, while Hays scored five points.
Northeast is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. As for Unity Christian, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-8 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Northeast will take on Tipton at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Unity Christian, they will head out on the road to square off against Tri-State Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Tri-State Christian comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 16 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
