Basketball Recap: Parkside Falls Despite Big Games from Daiquan Smith and Colby Murphy

On Sunday, the Parkside Eagles were within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 55-51 to the Veritas Collegiate Academy Spartans. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Eagles came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 25th in District of Columbia, while the Spartans are ranked 188th in Virginia).

Parkside's loss came despite strong showings from Colby Murphy and Daiquan Smith. Murphy posted 18 points, while Smith earned 16 points. The game was Murphy's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcus Scott, who put up eight points.

Parkside's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Veritas Collegiate Academy, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-8.

Parkside wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 76-70 loss against Avalon on the 30th. As for Veritas Collegiate Academy, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Life Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 17th. One thing working in Veritas Collegiate Academy's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last nine matches.
