Brandon has won seven straight games at home (dating back to last season), while Sumrall has won seven straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Thursday. The Brandon Bulldogs will host the Sumrall Bobcats at 6:45 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Brandon 3.6, Sumrall 2.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Brandon's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 12-0 margin over Meridian. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won seven games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Brandon got a massive performance out of Bentley Fox, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs Fox has posted since back in March of 2024. Kelsey Keeton was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.
Brandon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in eight consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Sumrall won against South Jones last Tuesday with seven runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. Sumrall walked away with a 7-2 victory over Stringer. The win continues a trend for the Bobcats in their matchups with the Red Devils: they've now won six in a row.
Sumrall also got a great performance from Avery Smith as she didn't allow a single earned run over 5.1 innings pitched. Smith has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Ella Robertson and Kynnedy Lumpkins did most of the damage at the plate: Robertson scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3, while Lumpkins went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Kara Applewhite, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
Brandon's victory bumped their record up to 12-0. As for Sumrall, their win bumped their record up to 14-3.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Brandon has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10 hits per game. However, it's not like Sumrall struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.4 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
