The Croatan Cougars will face off against the East Carteret Mariners at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Croatan is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.
Croatan is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 15 runs on Wednesday, they were much more limited against West Carteret on Friday. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Patriots. The Cougars have struggled against the Patriots recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Wyndham Fenton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up ten Ks.
On the hitting side, Croatan saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Halie Cooper, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Mackenzie Gilbert also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, East Carteret was not the first on the board on Monday, but they got there more often. They blew past Swansboro 12-5. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Mariners considering their two-run performance the game before.
Amilya Lewis made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up five earned runs off nine hits. Lewis was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Grayson Gillikin, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Ashley Mintz was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
The victory got East Carteret back to even at 1-1. As for Croatan, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.
Croatan got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in April of 2025 against East Carteret by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
