CAMARILLO, Calif. -
Camarillo (Calif.) grabbed the lead when
Travis Valdez thew a touchdown to
Corbin Covey with 2:00 remaining in the fourth quarter and held on to defeat
Pacifica (Oxnard, Calif.) 31-26 on Saturday. The score was the final lead change in a back-and-forth contest that featured five lead swaps.
After trailing 14-13 at the half, the Tritons went ahead on a touchdown pass by
Nick Davis with 1:00 remaining in the third.
By the end of the third, Camarillo found itself trailing by 3 points as Pacifica captured the lead thanks to one score in the quarter. PHS scored on a touchdown pass by Davis in the quarter.
Valdez played well for CHS in the victory. The senior quarterback threw one touchdown and ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored eight touchdowns on the season.
Davis made a difference for the Oxnard school. The senior quarterback threw two touchdowns and caught one touchdown. His performance brought his touchdown total to 10 on the year.
A 63-22 Camarillo victory was the result when the squads faced off last season.
The loss comes after Pacifica defeated Channel Islands 42-28 last week. The loss snapped the Tritons' 3-game winning streak.
Camarillo (8-1) goes up against Rio Mesa in a Pacific View game matchup next week, while Pacifica (4-5) locks horns with Oxnard also in a Pacific View game.
