Bertie is on a four-game streak of home losses, and North East Carolina Prep a four-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Tuesday. The Bertie Falcons will be playing at home against the North East Carolina Prep Husky at 6:00 p.m. Bertie has given up an average of 14.7 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Bertie lost 20-4 to Gates County on Thursday.
Bertie saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gracie Jones, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Alexia Dickerson was another, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, North East Carolina Prep never let their opponents score on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Hertford County as they made off with a 15-0 win. Considering the Husky have won six matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Savannah Babb made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and one run. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, North East Carolina Prep got a massive performance out of Jordyn Harvin, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Harvin has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Bailee Boyette, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
North East Carolina Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .633. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Bertie's defeat dropped their record down to 5-12. As for North East Carolina Prep, their victory bumped their record up to 6-8.
Bertie suffered a grim 17-2 defeat to North East Carolina Prep in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Falcons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
