Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Corina Barrera and Jordan Pete Lead Sotomayor to Victory

Sotomayor won the last time they faced Holmes and things went their way on Friday too. The Sotomayor WILDCATS blew past the Holmes Huskies 59-37. The WILDCATS have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matchups by 22 points or more this season.

Leading Sotomayor to victory were Jordan Pete and Corina Barrera. Pete almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine boards, while Barrera dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 boards. That's the most rebounds Barrera has posted since back in January. The team also got some help courtesy of Jah'Dae Bussey, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds.

Sotomayor was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Holmes only racked up seven assists.

Holmes lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Darlene Doboyou, who went 5 of 8 on her way to 11 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Crystal Aragon, who posted six points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals.

Sotomayor's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-7. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.3 points per game. As for Holmes, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-8 record this season.

Sotomayor wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, an 83-10 victory against Stevens on the 11th. As for Holmes, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 43-39 win against Harlan on the 11th.
