The Animo De La Hoya Boxers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fourth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 68-30 loss at the hands of Stern. While losing is never fun, Animo De La Hoya can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1314th, while Stern is ranked 492nd).
Stern got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was David Garcia out in front who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. The game was Garcia's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mark Bautista, who scored 17 points.
Animo De La Hoya bumped their record down to 1-10 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 27.3 points per game. As for Stern, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-2.
Animo De La Hoya will head out on the road to face off against Wilson on Tuesday. As for Stern, they will be playing at home against Los Angeles Leadership Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Los Angeles Leadership Academy and Stern are at an even 3-3 over their past six head-to-heads.
