The Albany Academy for Boys Cadets will head out to face off against the Saratoga Springs Blue Streaks at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Albany Academy for Boys comes in on three and Saratoga Springs on four.
Albany Academy for Boys is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Schenectady on Thursday as they made off with a 15-0 victory. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Willie Kimbler and Ben Dalto did most of the damage at the plate: Kimbler went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Dalto went 2-for-3 with three runs and three RBI. That's the most RBI Kimbler has posted since back in May of 2024. Gavin Rathwell was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one double.
Albany Academy for Boys was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Saratoga Springs let La Salle Institute stack four runs on them in the fifth inning on Saturday but luckily Saratoga Springs prevailed anyway. The Blue Streaks had just enough and edged out the Cadets 5-4.
Brendan Kantscheidt looked comfortable as he struck out ten batters over four innings while giving up four earned runs off three hits.
At the plate, Saratoga Springs got a big performance out of Jack Rigabar, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Villiere, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Albany Academy for Boys' record is now 4-5. As for Saratoga Springs, their record now sits at 10-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Albany Academy for Boys has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Saratoga Springs struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Albany Academy for Boys came out on top in a nail-biter against Saratoga Springs in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. Will the Cadets repeat their success, or do the Blue Streaks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
