Southeast Kansas recap Oct. 23, 2012
Fort Scott extended the longest winning streak in Southeast Kansas this week by beating Iola, 34-7. The victory was the eighth in a row for the team.
Chanute took down Anderson County 70-12 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Field Kindley's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Nathan Finley threw for 186 and one touchdown and Darron Deffebaugh had 83 yards receiving. On the ground Wesley Collins chipped in 224 yards. Elijah Jones helped Field Kindley's passing attack out by catching two balls for 54 yards.
Justus Towery made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Golden Tornado beat Columbus. The 5-foot-8 junior pulled down one interception and forced one fumble.
Field Kindley's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Golden Tornado feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Finley has thrown for 752 yards and nine touchdowns this season, while James Newton has 18 catches for 515 yards. Collins leads the league in rushing with 1000 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Fort Scott takes on the Blue Comets. At the moment, Bob Campbell's team is in first, while Chanute is in fourth.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Tigers take on Don Simmons' team. Fort Scott has allowed 87 points this season, while the Blue Comets have given up 88. The Tigers allowed 7 points last week as they topped the Mustangs.
Chanute led Southeast Kansas in scoring this week after putting up 70 points on the Bulldogs.
