Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Fairfield). They put the hurt on the Armijo Royals with a sharp 36-9 win on Thursday. Considering the Falcons have won six games by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Karli Robinson and Ashley Hernandez made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Robinson tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Hernandez tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and eight unearned) runs off one hit. At the plate, Robinson got on base in all six of her plate appearances with one home run, six runs, and four RBI, while Hernandez went 3-for-5 with four stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. Those three hits gave Hernandez a new career-high.
In other batting news, Bethany Johnson and Aubrianna Beacham did most of the damage at the plate: Johnson got on base in all six of her plate appearances with six runs, six RBI, and two stolen bases, while Beacham got on base in four of her six plate appearances with six runs, two stolen bases, and four RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Johnson a new career-high. Leilani Corey was another key player, getting on base in four of her six plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Fairfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .586. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .324 or higher in five consecutive matchups.
Fairfield has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.7 runs over those games. As for Armijo, their defeat was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-12.
Fairfield wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 20-0 win against Burbank on the 1st. As for Armijo, they have also already played their next matchup, a 1-0 loss against Florin on the 1st.
