The Morningside Academy Eagles's road trip will continue as they head out to face Sagemont at 7:00 p.m. on February 15th. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Morningside Academy had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They came out on top against the Cougars by a score of 51-39.
Morningside Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Marvin Tidas, who scored 17 points. It was the first time this season that Tidas scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Clifford, who scored 13 points.
Meanwhile, Sagemont had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.3 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Saturday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Dade Christian 63-31 on the road. Sagemont has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matchups by 20 points or more this season.
It was another big night for Patrick Liburd, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks. Another player making a difference was Jordyn Kee, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds.
Morningside Academy's win bumped their record up to 16-11. As for Sagemont, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 20-6 record this season.
Thursday's game is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Morningside Academy have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 28.3 rebounds per game.
