Softball Recap: Wood Wins Going Away Against River City

Wood won the last time they faced River City and things went their way on Friday too. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Raiders with a sharp 18-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won seven matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.

Madisyn Farnham made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double.

In other batting news, Abigail Sova was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Aubrey Redline, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.

Wood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as River City only posted an OBP of .296.

The win made it two in a row for Wood and bumps their season record up to 10-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for River City, they dropped their record down to 3-14 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wood will head out to take on Rosemont at 11:00 a.m. on Monday. As for River City, they will venture away from home to square off against Vanden at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
