The Titusville Rockets will face off against the Fairview Tigers at 12:00 p.m. on Monday. Titusville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.9 runs per game this season.
Titusville is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They walked away with a 5-2 win over Girard. The victory continues a trend for the Rockets in their matchups with the Yellowjackets: they've now won three in a row.
Brett Schmidt was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.
Schmidt wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ian McDonald, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Fairview got themselves on the board against Sharon on Friday, but Sharon never followed suit. They came out on top against Sharon by a score of 5-0. That's two games straight that Fairview has won by exactly five runs.
Tyler Benford was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Rzodkiewicz, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Fairview has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.6 runs over those games. As for Titusville, their victory bumped their record up to 17-3.
Titusville's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's matchup. The Rockets have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.9 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Fairview, though, as they've been averaging only 0.9 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Titusville continue to outrun the ball?
Titusville couldn't quite finish off Fairview in their previous matchup back in April of 2022 and fell 6-4. Can the Rockets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
